In 1981, Rebecca Pierce started the BEC PIERCE fashion label and continued on to develop her designs over a number of labels and a variety of licensed product. Additionally, throughout the years, Pierce’s designs extended to corporate commissions as well as not-for-profit projects and charity work.
In 2001, after nearly twenty years involved in the fashion, design and licensing fields Pierce started painting and exhibiting on a full time basis.
Those familiar with Pierce’s works will be accustomed to the reliance on texture in numerous forms, intense thick application of medium and vivid, unusual colour combinations. A strong emphasis is towards the figurative, and the figure itself becoming the landscape. The unpredictability of Pierce’s subject, frequently rendered to create a third dimension, can often simultaneously create tension laced with elements of playfulness.
